HISTORY

BADAMTALA ASHAR SANGHA, a multi faceted institution more than just a club, lead by Sri Mridul Kumar Pathak, the settler trustee of International Foundation for Sustainable Development and the concept provider of Kalighat Redevelopment Project, a front liner in the arena of social work and benevolent services, as it pioneered efficiently in its mission of literacy drive with AMARTYA SIKSHA YOJONA a policy formulated by National Insurance Company, to ten meritorious students of the locality. Other important aspect was the Blood Donation Camp in association with PEOPLES BLOOD BANK and AMBULANCE SERVICE not only so it has become a name well renowned in Pujas as won several accolades like Ananda Snowcem, Ananda NIC, Sree leathers, Pratidin, Sonic Sharad Samman, Asian Paints Sharad Samman, Star Ananda Superstar, Kolkata TV Award, M.P. Birla Foundation, Puroshree, Rotary Sharad Samman, Rotaract Sharad Shiromoni, Doordarshan Shalimar, Chevrolet Sharad Samman as well as Impact Safety Awards in its bouquet, it had also got a tremendous mass appeal and hype over the years for their work of art. There has been a remarkable publicity for the last few years in all the forms of media especially in Anandabazar Patrika where it has featured in Bhirer Gharir Kantay, which added the final feather to the hat and thus it continues its journey seeking more revenues and avenues in making the world a better place for the entire race. The Puja is community based Puja, possibly the pioneer of theme based Puja in Kolkata. In 1999 the theme Puja was experimented for the first time. In association with IFSD (International Foundation of Sustainable Development), the Puja started growing and becoming professional managed.

CHRONOLOGY

2012 Theme : Ebar Ulto Pothe (“Views with a Difference”)
We, Badamtala Asarsangha, Are Organizing Their 74th Year Of Durga Puja. This Year We Are Presenting As A Theme Ebar Ulto Pothe (Views With A Difference). In Our Everyday Life, We Usually Find That Whenever Possessions For Immersion Of Idol, Marriage Parties Are Passing By The Roads Some Bunch Of People Do Carry Large Size Torches Side By Side Of The Possession To Make It More Bright And Beautiful. We Do Observe And Be Amused By The Beauty And Brightness Of The Possession But People Who Have Makes It Mostly Remains In Dark.Regarding Decorations Of The Pandals, It Is Almost The Same Story Repeated. Visitors Who Wait In Long Cue To See The Decoration Of The Pandal And Idol Of Goddess Are Also Eager To See Only The Art And Craft Of The Pandal And Idol. Decorated Lightings Are Remaining At Road Sides Only. Artists Do Dedicate Their All Effort To Decorate The Lighting. But The Creations Are Only Able To Reach Road Side Of The Pandals. Even If The Lighting Inside The Pandal Has Reach An Artistic As Well As Creative Level Then Also It Only Remains As An Instrument To Present The Creativity Of The Pandal And The Idol Of Goddess. Why These Dissimilarities Are Prevailing? Art Director Bandan Raha Gave A Thought. His Artistic Thinking Inspired Him To Openness. No Decorated Closed Pandals Any More, Open Sky Will Be The Stage. This Year The Pandal Entrance Is Decorated With Handicrafts. The Art Director And Light Artists Both Made Equal Contribution To Make The Main Pandal More Creative, Artistic And Lucrative. As If We Carrying That Large Size Torches With Us. And We Are Trying To Put The Spot Light On The People Who Are Carrying The Torch On The Bright Road With Them In Possession And With A Difference.

2011 Theme : Mrinmoyee rupe Chinmoyee Maa
From the ancient years ghatpujo is mainly done with the help of water, fruit & flower.
Ghat pujo is mainly done by arya. But that is also changing with the change of time.
Then in changing time murtipujo started. Murtipujo is mainly done by anarya. Now what we are doing is mixture of two – arya and anarya style. Now recent days puja is a mixture of murtipujo and also ghat pujo. For two cases ghat and murti the main material was soil.
Soil is treated delecatly and mixed with other ingrediants to bring life to clay. This style is going on for more thousand of years. Potters delight us with creation and satisfy our soul.
So badamtala ashar sangha has made their pandal with soil.

2010 Theme : Parar Puja (Puja of an area)
In this era of theme Puja, different Puja committee creates different themes like a beautiful Mandir or village of Bengal. These might be very beautiful in creation but it not seems to match with the identity of that particular area.
So this time we wanted to created a theme Para Puja. In this we wanted to show a identity of a para (area) and their speciality of an area in organizing the Durga Puja. We created a specific identity of our para (area) and to bring a Durga Puja in the true form of a theme puja.
The whole idea was conceived & created by Suthanta pal to provide a Durga Puja of different sort.

2008 Theme : Bottala
It was our effort to pay tribute to the early endeavor made in the field of printing. Bottala in North Kolkata was famous once for such printing.
This year the for the first time the financial management of Badamtala Ashar Sangha’s Durga Puja was organized by Media Morfosis (Manhattan Communication) and introduced Mithun Chakravorty as the Brand Ambassador of the Durga Puja.

In its trust sense created the ambience of the WORLD OF GODS. 30000 idols, use of art work on material like old oil barrels, tin cans were used to its perfection.
Sound of bells, enchanting tune of VEDIC MANTRAS in the background, use of light and shade added on to the mystic look of DEVLOK.

Wooden dolls were used. Even the pillars and the idol of DEVI DURGA was chiseled out of wood and painted with natural colours.

The village had the effected side and from which they are trying to revive, these all were created to give a true feelings. There were 5 deity of Maa Durga in different style.

2004 Theme : Renovated Jangla Garh - Sanrakhna
Preservation of heritage was our only motto. To highlight that last year theme which was old fort, this year it was recreated with a theme of renovation. It was shown & depicted in such a manner as if it was done by the archaeological department. The ground floor was renovated but the upper floor was kept in the old & broken stage to make feel the effect of renovation. Even the iron pipes which are usually used to provide support to old structure during renovation are kept our there to give an authentic form and true feelings.

2003 Theme : Jangla Garh (Old Fort)
Ancient architecture of Jhargram came to life with the imaginative display within the limited boundary of our pandal. Life line of the presentation was performance by Adivasi people. Their dance and songs had spellbinding effect on the crowd.
Surprise elements were the display of old weapons, spider web in the darkest corners, group of noisy pigeons, snake skins hanging from branches of trees or windows. This year the Puja received the highest footfall in the city.

Puja in a hill station was highlighted with all its basic elements. This was a Mandir of Devi Durga in a hill station. At that Mandir Durga Puja is organized. To create a true ambience different shops for food and other items are created around the Mandir. The Mandir also surrounded by hills. The Devi idol was given a black stone finish.

2000 Theme : Mamma Baghnay (Kooch Behar’s style of work)
There was lot of similarity with the MAMA BHAGNE PAHAR in Birbhum. Image of goddess Durga resembled the ancient idol placed in the temple of Coochbihar Palace. Sculpture of Khajuraho blended well with the backdrop.
